On May 10th one of our customers, Beckwith Butchers, hosted a BBQ fundraiser in support of relief efforts for Fort McMurray, Alberta after the devastating wildfires that evacuated the city and displaced tens of thousands of people. Their hope was to initially raise $500, but when lineups began to form hours before the event was to take place, it was evident that something special was happening.
The response was overwhelming as Rob Carpenter and his family put in a huge effort serving up 225 lbs of pulled pork, 800 burgers, 400 hot dogs, 240 sausages and 1200 soft drinks & bottles of water for an ever growing crowd of people from the local community. People lined up for more than 45 minutes for food and their chance to help contribute to the relief efforts.
To date Beckwith Butchers has raised close to $13,000 for the Red Cross Fort McMurray Wildfire Fund, with donations continuing to come in days after the event.
We would like to congratulate and thank Rob and everyone at Beckwith for their incredible effort. If you are in the Carleton Place area, you can continue to donate by stopping in to visit Rob and the staff at Beckwith Butchers.
For those outside of the area, more information on how to support Fort McMurray fire victims is available through the Red Cross website at www.redcross.ca.
